DESCRIPTION:Abstract: One of the strongest drivers of human behavior is th
 e search for meaning\, a pursuit that economists so far largely neglect wh
 en studying behavior and decision-making. We collect three types of data o
 n a representative sample of the Dutch population to gain insight into wha
 t makes life meaningful and what differentiates meaningfulness and happine
 ss: open questions\, vignettes\, and self-experienced meaning and happines
 s. We show that people strongly care about both happiness and meaning and 
 that the drivers of a happy and meaningful life differ in important ways. 
 Moreover\, we find interesting and sizable gender differences.\nThe semina
