COMEBACK re-entry programme

Since 2009, the COMEBACK re-entry program at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf has been aimed at young female doctoral researchers who have interrupted their research project due to a family phase and would like to continue their academic career with the aim of becoming a professor. It is intended to ensure the continuity of academic work. Applicants must outline the strategies they are pursuing to become eligible for a professorship.

The funding includes two years of funding for the applicant's own academic position for qualification (habilitation or eligibility for appointment). It facilitates re-entry and ensures full involvement in research, teaching and academic self-administration.

It serves as a basis for scientific output, for example through third-party funding, publications or conference participation. The program is open to female academics at HHU as well as external applicants, but is tied to the resumption of a research project at the beginning of the funding period, which should be completed by the end of the funding period.

The prerequisite is that the research project is based at HHU.

  • The programme is open to female HHU researchers and external applicants.
  • The funding covers a full-time or part-time (at least 75%) research associate position (pay scale grade 13 in the Public Sector Collective Agreement for the Federal States (TV-L)) for two years.
  • When applying, the applicant must indicate which strategies they will pursue in order to gain a professorship on the basis of the research project.
  • Doctorate with an above-average grade (completed less than ten years ago)
  • Innovative, independent and promising research project
  • Supervision by a professor and integration into a research group/academic facility/institute at HHU
  • Interruption of the qualification project due to parental leave and/or care of relatives for at least six months
  • Remaining contract period pursuant to the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG), within which it is likely that the qualification project can be successfully completed

Please read the detailed information on the application requirements and the application procedure in the participation regulations (only in German).
