HHU Visiting Lecturer Program
The Visiting Lecturer Program, part of the Internationalization@Home initiative centrally funded by HHU, offers you, as a professor at HHU, the opportunity to integrate international expertise directly into your courses. By inviting visiting lecturers, you enrich your teaching with new perspectives, methods, and insights from diverse academic cultures.
At the same time, you provide your students with direct access to international teaching and learning environments, thereby fostering their intercultural and language skills.
Furthermore, the program opens up valuable opportunities for academic exchange and lays a solid foundation for long-term international collaboration in teaching and research.
- Guest lecturers must be nominated by a faculty member at HHU.
- The planned courses must comprise at least eight hours per week (SWS), be integrated into the faculty’s curriculum, and be conducted in a foreign language customary for the discipline. Purely guest lectures are excluded; courses for doctoral students may also be funded. The visiting professorship may also be integrated into several different courses.
- The funding program is open to faculty members worldwide; early-career researchers with a Ph.D. are also eligible for funding. Exceptions apply to faculty members from countries where a Ph.D. is not typically required to work as a university instructor.
- For approved visiting lecturer positions, lump-sum payments of up to 3,000 euros may be provided. The lump sum is calculated based on the daily rates under the ERASMUS funding program for university staff and in accordance with the travel expense rates of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation:
- Subsistence allowances: 180 euros through the 14th day of the activity; 126 euros per day of stay starting on the 15th day of the activity.
- Travel expense allowances: Please refer to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation’s travel expense rates.

Cost-benefit ratio
- Nominations can be submitted online at any time via the application portal. Applications should be submitted well in advance, as the selection process takes at least 4 weeks.
- Visiting faculty positions are selected by a selection committee composed of representatives from the Rector’s Office, the Junior Scientist and International Researcher Center (JUNO), and the Service Center for Good Teaching and Learning (SeLL).
The HHU faculty member must complete the feedback form no later than 3 months after the visiting professorship ends.
