New project idea? Submit now!

The SFF – the Strategic Research Fund at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) – supports researchers in implementing their projects and acquiring funding. The application round for the internal HHU programme lines “project proposals in an early career phase” and “interdisciplinary projects with an exploratory character” for the second half of 2026 runs until 15 October.

Project proposals for the postdoc phase
This support is aimed at applicants who are in an early career phase, i.e. they gained their doctorate no more than eight years ago. HHU employees from all faculties except the Medical Faculty are eligible to apply. The objectives are to develop a personal research profile and gain experience in preparing research projects with a view to submitting large-scale third-party funding applications in the future.
You can find more information here.

Interdisciplinary projects with an exploratory character
This funding line is for interdisciplinary research projects in which at least two different specialist fields from HHU will collaborate closely. It is aimed at professors, junior research group leaders and all academic staff who are planning a research project at the interface between multiple disciplines. The objective is to boost interdisciplinary research and large-scale collaborative third-party funded projects.
You can find more information here.

Young researchers are particularly encouraged to submit a proposal. The funding can be used to cover costs for personnel (but not your own position), equipment and consumables, travel and specialist literature.

The deadline for proposals is 15 October 2026 for projects due to start from April 2027 onwards. You can submit your electronic proposals via this link.
