Jens Südekum becomes personal advisor to Finance Minister Klingbeil

Minister of Finance appoints the economist as personal representative for macroeconomic development.

Prof Dr Jens Südekum, holder of the Chair of International Economics at DICE, has been appointed Personal Representative for Macroeconomic Development by Federal Minister of Finance Lars Klingbeil. In this role, Prof Südekum will advise the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) on key macroeconomic and fiscal policy issues. With his scientific expertise in the areas of globalisation, structural change and fiscal policy, he will provide impetus for the work of the Ministry and the Federal Government. In his advisory role, Prof Südekum will remain honorary and independent and will not be part of the Ministry. He will continue to offer a reduced number of courses at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf.

Jens Südekum has been teaching as Professor of International Economics at DICE since 2014. He has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) since 2020; his membership there is suspended for the duration of his advisory activities at the BMF. He has also advised various international institutions in the past, including the European Commission, the OECD and the World Trade Organisation (WTO).
