Short description

This undergraduate programme (minor subject) offers a diversified introduction to the study of Romance languages (languages of instruction: German, French, Spanish). Courses in literary studies, linguistics, cultural studies combined with advanced language courses provide a solid basis in philological knowledge.

Prerequisite for admission: school-leaving qualification permitting university admission (Abitur) or a qualification recognised as equivalent.

Programme content

Multilingual communication – French, Spanish

Building bridges with languages – in order to achieve this goal you need a sound language training. Language knowledge and skills that students develop in the courses of the department of Romance Studies in Düsseldorf will increase their individual range of communication to a considerable extent: more than 800 milion people all over the planet speak French oder Spanish as their first or second language. In the Bachelor’s program Romance Studies the students acquire in-depth knowledge, skills, and expertise in one of the Romance languages and cultures (Spanish, French) offered.

The degree programmes in Romance studies prepare for careers in the following areas:

  • Multilingual information-, knowledge- and cultural management
  • New Media (digital media technology, communication technology)
  • Journalism and publishing
  • European and international organizations, enterprises and educational institutions
  • Composing texts in foreign languages, international public relations agencies
  • Culturally specific education and training for enterprises, the „new language industries“ (e.g. web portals, development of digitial dictionaries and encyclopaedias, creation of educational software)
  • Foreign language teaching at schools or in adult education
  • Adademic research and teaching
