Short description

The BA minor 'Sociology' imparts basic knowledge and key findings of sociological research. The students will be familiarised with classical and modern sociological theories and acquire knowledge about sociodemographic fundamentals as well as structures of social inequalities. The programme also imparts knowledge of empirical methods. The standard period of study is six semesters. Typical fields of education are public relations, event management, advertisement, marketing und education.

 The general prerequisite for the admission is a general higher education entrance qualification.

Programme content

The BA minor 'Sociology' imparts basic knowledge and key findings of sociological research. The students will be familiarised with classical and modern sociological theories and acquire knowledge about sociodemographic fundamentals as well as structures of social inequalities. The subject further teaches key findings in the field of micro-sociology (e.g. values, norms, social order), in the field of macro-sociology (e.g. social structures, institutions, social change) as well as specific sociologies such as political sociology, family-sociology or cultural sociology. The students will learn to acquire and critically evaluate sociological theories and methods. Additionally, the programme imparts knowledge of empirical methods. In this context the programme also imparts knowledge of empirical methods.
