Receipt & activation

The card must be activated within 4 weeks of receipt. If the card is not activated, it will be cancelled automatically for security reasons and you will need to order a replacement card, which is subject to a fee. You can find a guide to activating the HHU card here

 

Cards are produced on a weekly basis, meaning that new regular students should receive their card by post shortly (two to four weeks) after enrolment. The HHU card is valid for five years. If your studies take longer, a new card will be issued and sent out automatically.
Guest students, auditing doctoral students and cross-registered students will not receive an HHU card.

 

 

You can cancel your card directly in the Identity Management system (IDM - idm.hhu.de). It may take up to 24 hours to disable all functions.

 

Problems

If the card cannot be delivered due to an incorrect address, it will be returned to HHU. At HHU, the address will be checked (or the student will be contacted) and the card will be forwarded to the current address. Enrolled students can check whether their HHU card has been sent or is still in production in the IDM system – simply log in and check the “My HHU card” menu field. If your card has been listed as “sent” in the portal for more than one week and you have still not received it, please contact studierendenservice(at)hhu.de or the hotline on +49 211 81-12345. Student Services can issue a temporary ticket for public transport (valid for 30 days) until it arrives.

 

If your name has been spelt incorrectly by mistake, Student Services can correct it for you on presentation of proof (e.g. ID card). You will then receive a new card with the correct data by post. If you have changed your name, please submit a change of name application via digstu.hhu.de. You will be asked to upload proof, e.g. a marriage certificate. Once the application has been processed, you will receive a new HHU card by post.

 

If you re-register successfully after expiry of the validity period (printed on the card), a new card will automatically be produced and sent to you.

Amounts will only be credited to your HHU card if you have entered the wallet ID printed on the back of the card correctly in the ventopay system. If you have problems, please contact mensacard(at)stw-d.de, stating your student ID number and the wallet ID printed on the HHU card.

 

Please complete the notice of loss form and pay €10 for the replacement card to the account stated on the form.

 

Your HHU card will be cancelled automatically following de-registration. You can get any credit left on your card paid out at facilities operated by the Studierendenwerk student support service organisation. You can then dispose of the card.
