Get-together Regenbogenland

Zoom

On 8 May 2024, a meeting took place between students from the fields of medicine and psychology and their sponsor "Regenbogenland gGmbH" and the "Stiftung Regenbogenland" as part of the Germany Scholarship.

This informative meeting gave the scholarship holders the opportunity to get to know each other and their sponsor better. They also gained important and ground-breaking insights into the areas of activity of the Regenbogenland children's and youth hospice for their future careers.

The scholarship holders present were impressed and touched by their impressions of "Rainbow Land":

Anna Sch. (Psychology degree programme):
"The day at the children's and young people's hospice changed my perspective on palliative care and bereavement counselling for good. I was deeply moved by the sensitive and impressive presentation by the mother concerned, who shared her personal story with us. Dr Janßen's subsequent presentation on palliative care was extremely informative and made it clear how important it is to accompany people in their last phase of life with dignity and comfort. The subsequent visit to the farewell room showed us how lovingly and sensitively the facility is designed to offer families a place of peace and farewell during their grief.

Damla K. (Medicine degree programme)
"It was a valuable and touching experience to hear the story of a child with a life-shortening illness from the mother's perspective. It became clear what challenges and difficult decisions the child's life is associated with for the family and what an important role the Regenbogenland children's and youth hospice plays in dealing with these challenges. Dr Gisela Janßen's presentation on paediatric palliative medicine taught me that palliative medicine is about holistic medical and emotional care for children and their families, with the child's individual wishes and emotions always taking centre stage. I didn't realise before how much time the palliative care staff take for the patients and how much the families are also supported on their journey.

Pauline L. (Psychology degree programme)
"The meeting at the Regenbogenland children's and youth hospice was a memorable afternoon for me. I am particularly grateful that an affected mother was willing to share her experiences with us. Her son's story touched me deeply. I also found it very nice that Dr Janßen gave us a deeper insight into her palliative work. I am very much looking forward to another meeting!"

Meike V. (Medicine degree programme)
"The meeting made me realise the scope of the work at the children's hospice and gave me a new perspective on the work there. You could feel that a lot of heart and soul goes into the care of children and young people with life-limiting illnesses. I was particularly impressed by the story of a mother who lost her son to a progressive neurodegenerative disease. This story made it clear how close the cooperation between the hospice team and the parents is and that the quality of life can be maximised for a long time through palliative treatment. I have great respect for the people who work in the hospice and care for the sick people day and night.
