In January 2024, the “Center for Time, Constants and Fundamental Symmetries” (TCFS) will begin its second funding phase.
This marks a continued strengthening of the collaboration between German and Japanese institutions, established to develop highly sensitive instruments for fundamental research in atomic and nuclear physics, antimatter and dark matter studies, quantum optics, and metrology.
Three partners — the Max Planck Institutes for Nuclear Physics (MPIK) and Quantum Optics (MPQ), the National Metrology Institute of Germany (PTB), and Japan’s leading research organization RIKEN — will each contribute equal funding, totaling approximately €7.5 million to support the Center for another five years.
One of the three TCFS spokespersons is Dr. Stefan Ulmer, a professor of physics at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU).
