Introduction to Space Sciences

The UNIVERSEH Team at Université de Namur cordially invites you to apply to its Spring School taking place from April 29th to May 5th 2024 in the Euro Space Center and the European Space Security and Education Center in Libin. The 5 selected students will have the chance to participate in a blended programme, that consists of interesting online project work and a week spent locally  in Libin.

The European University for Earth and Humanity (UNIVERSEH), is a European University Alliance funded by the European Commission. Starting from November 2020 UNIVERSEH is an Alliance of now 7 partner universities, spread all over Europe, that aims to  create new higher education interactive experiences for the university community, teachers and students, and for the benefit of society as a whole.

The Spring School - Space is all around, is a short-term mobility offer by UNIVERSEH.

It consists of preliminary online meetings, a week spend abroad at Euro Space Cender and ESA-ESEC (European Space Security and Education Center) in Belgium, and approx. two weeks of continuous online project work.

The succesful participation will be rewarded with not only great experience, new friends all over Europe and expanded knowledge about Space Sciences but as well with a certificate and 3 ECTS.

Open to all undergrad and graduate students enrolled at Heinrich Heine University. All study levels are welcome (BA, MA, State Examination, PHD), regardless of the field of studies. No pre-knowledge expected.

Discover several aspects of the space sector, from engineering and science to humanities.

The Spring school will include plenary general conferences on various topics, team-building
activities inspired by astronaut training at the Euro Space Center (the only space-themed park in
Europe), visits of the ESA Academy facilities and ESEC-Redu station, a cosmicathon (team-based
challenge around space mission design), planetarium and stargazing sessions, etc.

Your successful participation will earn you a certificate and 3 ECTS points.

Before your stay in Libin

Mid March 2024

Introduction to structure of the Universe; remote observations from our teaching astronomical
facility.

End of March 2024

Space is all around us: why space matters in everyday life? Introductive conference on the many
things that we inherited from space exploration, from GPS to emergency blankets.

April 2024

Preparation of the mobility : online group discussion and brainstorming about some space hot
topics (space debris ; asteroid mining ; space and security ; etc.). These topics will be proposed in
the cosmicathon activity during the school (space mission preliminiray design).

As all the lectures and seminars will be held in English, we recommend English level B2 for your participation. Please keep in mind that attending the online meetings is mandatory.

The trainride from Düsseldorf to Libin and back home are paid by UNIVERSEH. Accommodation in Libin is reserved and financed by UNIVERSEH.
