Energy price allowance

At the end of 2022, the Federal Government resolved to make a one-off payment of €200 (tax-free) to students on application to relieve the financial pressure on them resulting from the increase in the cost of heating, electricity and food.

The Students’ Energy Price Allowance Act (Studierenden-Energiepreispauschalengesetz – EPPSG) regulating this came into force on 21 December 2022. Since then, a number of preparatory tasks have been necessary, the majority of which have needed to be realised by the Federal and State Governments and have thus only affected the universities involved to a limited extent.

As you may have seen in the media, the Federal Government launched the einmalzahlung200.de website in February. You will be able to submit applications electronically via this site in due course. It already provides a range of helpful information for those expected to be eligible – approx. 3.5 million people across Germany.

As soon as applications open, which is expected to be in mid-March, all eligible students will receive a mail explaining the next steps, so please check your HHU e-mail inbox regularly.
