Dr Anja Vervoorts has a PhD in biology. From 2011 to 2015, she held the role of Faculty Equal Opportunities Officer at the Medical Faculty. During this period, she gained a wide range of experience in more than 30 W3 and W2 appointment procedures and candidate appraisals (appointment committee visits to workplaces of candidates for certain positions to observe surgery skills, leadership behaviour, collaborations, etc.). She also gained further experience in the areas of selection decisions, support for young academics and maintaining a balance between family/care responsibilities and work.

Dr Anja Vervoorts has been the HHU Central Equal Opportunities Officer since 2016 and has been re-elected for a third term of office until 2027 by the Senate. The SelmaMeyerMentoring programme and the Family Support Centre are also part of her remit.

Dr Anja Vervoorts is now in her fourth term of office as Spokesperson of the State Conference of Equal Opportunities Officers at Universities and University Hospitals in NRW (LaKof NRW). She is also a member of the Ethics Committee of the Medical Faculty as well as a member of and reviewer for various professional associations. She is active in the following networks, among others: The Federal Conference of Women’s and Equal Opportunities Officers of Universities (bukof), the Women’s & Gender Research Network, Top Women In NRW (TWIN), the GenderConsulting Network and the “eument-net” European Network of Mentoring Programmes.
