Map and directions
You can find the facilities of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) and University Hospital Düsseldorf on the joint campus in the south of Düsseldorf, approx. 3.5 km from the city centre and main railway station.
Timetable information
The University campus is like a small town, so there are numerous bus and tram stops. A special offer for first-year students, which all other students can also benefit from, is the campus network plan (German only) published by the Düsseldorf public transport company Rheinbahn.
The Rheinbahn journey planner can help you find the quickest way to reach your destination.

Arriving by bicycle
The campus is easy to reach by bicycle and well-connected to the city’s cycle path network. There are central cycle paths with marked lanes e.g. along Himmelgeister Strasse, the motorway overpass and Christophstrasse, by the lake on campus or alongside the Brückerbach waterway.
Bicycles can be parked at numerous stands on campus and can be borrowed from sharing stations at several central points, thanks to a cooperation with Nextbike bike sharing. The first 60 minutes of each rental are free of charge for University members.
There are also two mobility stations (German only) at the “Universität Mitte” (University Central) and “Universität Mensa” (University Canteen) stops offering various mobility and sharing services, which can be used via an app. You can also book secure bicycle parking boxes there.
Arriving by car
From the East
The University is best reached from the “Hildener Kreuz” interchange (A3/A46), then the “Düsseldorf-Süd” (Düsseldorf South) interchange (A46). Leave the A46 in the tunnel (exit: “Zentrum/Universität” – city centre/university). Turn left at the first set of traffic lights into “Universitätsstrasse”, which runs through the campus.
From the West
The University is best reached from the “Neuss-Süd” (Neuss South) interchange, where the A46 and A57 merge. After the Flehe Rhine bridge, take the exit “Bilk/Zentrum/Hafen/Benrath” (Bilk/city centre/harbour/Benrath). Then take the right-hand exit to “Benrath/Universität” (Benrath/University).
From the city centre
The University is best reached via Corneliusstrasse, then Witzelstrasse (follow signs for Wuppertal, A46), then turn right into Universitätsstrasse.
On campus
The marked HHU parking spaces are free of charge. Vehicles parked incorrectly will be towed away and a fee charged for release.
There are also two mobility stations (German only) at the “Universität Mitte” (University Central) and “Universität Mensa” (University Canteen) stops where, among other options, you can access a car sharing service, which can be used via an app.
Arriving by train (regional and intercity)
Düsseldorf main station is connected to all international long-distance rail routes. Two lines run from the main station directly to the University: the U79 underground line, which goes to “Uni Ost/Botanischer Garten” (University East/Botanical Garden), and the 704 tram, which goes to Universität Nord/Christophstraße (University North/Christophstrasse).
From “Bilk S-Bahnhof/Friedrichstraße” (Bilk suburban train station/Friedrichstrasse), you can take the U73 and U72 tram lines or the 835 bus to the campus.
The following regional trains stop at the suburban train station:
- RE6 (RRX): Minden main station – Cologne/Bonn airport
- RE4: Dortmund main station – Aachen main station
- S11: Düsseldorf airport terminal – Bergisch Gladbach
- S28: Wuppertal main station – Kaarst/Kaarster See
You can reach the “Universität Nord/Christophstraße” (University North/Christophstrasse) stop via the 704, U73 and U72 lines. This stop is particularly recommended for all destinations in the northern part of the campus. You can reach the “Südpark” (South Park) stop via the U73, U79 and U72 lines.
Arriving by plane
Düsseldorf is one of the largest airports in Europe. From the airport terminal, the campus is best reached via the S11 suburban train to “Bilk S-Bahnhof/Friedrichstraße” (Bilk suburban train station/Friedrichstrasse). From there, you can take the U73 and U72 tram lines or the 835 bus to the campus.
