Our relatively young university has a long-standing tradition: it evolved from the Medical Academy, which was established in 1907. In 1965, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia founded what is now the university. It began with three faculties: the Medical Faculty, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Renamed Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf in 1988, HHU experienced dynamic growth and expanded in the 1990s to include the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Law.
