Chancellor Dr Martin Goch
Dr. Martin Goch was born in Bielefeld in 1963 and studied History and English at Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Sheffield. His doctoral dissertation dealt with post-1945 English university fiction. Martin Goch began his professional career in 1992 as Personal Assistant to the President of the University of Essen (now University of Duisburg-Essen).
He held this post until 1996 and from 1994 onwards was responsible for additional duties as Head of Unit and later Deputy Head of the Department of Student and Academic Affairs. In parallel and once his position as personal assistant had ended, he was also in charge of the Controlling Unit from 1996 onwards.
After Dr. Goch had been appointed Head of Department of Economic and Financial Affairs at the University of Essen he was instrumental from 2003 onwards in the merging of the two universities of Duisburg and Essen. In 2009 he was appointed as the first Vice-President for Financial and Human Resources at Hochschule Rhein-Waal – University of Applied Sciences.
He has been in charge of Central University Administration at HHU since 2014 as Chancellor and is a member of the Rectorate. Dr. Goch is married and has two older children.
