The Master of Science program in Psychology (4 semesters) at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf builds upon the Bachelor’s degree program and has a modern scientific, experimental, and interdisciplinary orientation.
The program, located at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, starts every winter semester.
Studieneinstieg/Zugangsvoraussetzungen
Admission requires basic knowledge and skills in Psychology, which usually has been acquired during a Bachelor’s degree program in Psychology, a strong interest in at least two of the three focal areas of the Master of Science program at Heinrich Heine University, as well as a high level of motivation and willingness to learn.
Studieninhalte
The Master of Science program in Psychology includes the following areas: Quantitative Research Methods and Evaluation, Psychological Assessment and Decision Making, Abnormal Psychology, Cognitive Psychology and Industrial Psychology, Neuroscientific Psychology, as well as Neuroanatomy.
In the Master of Science program, students learn to analyse and critically discuss scientific evidence, acquire specialised methodological knowledge, as well as skills in conducting scientific research and in communicating scientific results.
Studienverlauf
The Master of Science program comprises courses in research methods and psychological assessment, as well as research-oriented courses in the three focal areas of the Master of Science program at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf:
- Cognitive Psychology and Industrial Psychology
- Abnormal Psychology
- Neuroscientific Psychology
The students of the Master of Science program are involved in ongoing research projects so that they acquire valuable skills and knowledge through active research experience. An external internship, as well as a mentor program, are also integral parts of the Master of Science program.
The last component of the Master of Science program is an empirical Master thesis.
Studienziele/Berufsperspektiven
The Master’s degree qualifies for high-level professional practice in Psychology and is a requirement for a postgraduate Psychological Psychotherapy Program. Due to the broad scope and high quality of the education, graduates are qualified for careers in important fields of work for psychologists such as the healthcare system as well as organisations and businesses.
